Rectal Cancer Seminal Advances Preceptorship

“The Preceptorship” is an interactive learning model developed by Professor Eva Segelov covering landmark clinical trials in specific cancers, with mentorship from experts in the field. It has been applied in the areas of lung, colorectal, upper gastro-intestinal and prostate cancers to aid trainees and junior consultants in understanding of the evolution of management and evidence behind contemporary clinical practice. The 1 ½ day workshop will cover landmark clinical trials in rectal cancer. Our target participants are trainees and junior specialists (first 5 years of practice) in radiation oncology, medical oncology, surgery and imaging. Foundation ECG Interpretation

Advanced ECG Interpretation

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn to understand advanced ECGs and interpret complex cardiac arrhythmias, including:

ECG Workshop

ECG training in most specialties only teaches the basic knowledge. Through a series of focused lectures and case-presentations we will discuss multiple ECG key points with real cases that will elevate your confidence and ability to interpret ECGs to a higher level. Critical Care

Advanced Life Support 1-Day Course (ALS1)

A one-day course aimed at providing the candidate with the skills and knowledge to manage the patient in the immediate period of crisis. It includes the recognition, assessment and immediate management of the deteriorating patient. Candidates are sent a manual at least two weeks prior to the course to commence preparation for the face-to-face component. This includes those skills for dealing with a cardiac arrest or other medical emergencies in a clinical setting.

Advanced Life Support 2-Day Course (ALS2)

The Royal Melbourne Hospital delivers the course jointly accredited by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). The course is accredited for quality assurance (QA). This two day internationally accredited course has been developed to standardise the teaching of cardiac arrest and resuscitation management. The ALS course consists of lectures, practical workshops and cardiac arrest scenarios, providing the opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge.

Obstetrics & Gynaecology

NOVICE

Mater Education developed the Novice Obstetrics and Gynaecology Prevocational Interactive Clinical Education (NOVICE) course specifically for:

  • registered medical officers (RMOs)
  • principle house officers (PHOs)
  • junior registrars who want to improve their skills in obstetrics and gynaecology procedures.

As a participant you’ll first need to complete some pre-reading. Then, during the course, you’ll observe and perform a variety of obstetrics and gynaecology procedures on realistic simulators, and receive real-time feedback from an experienced instructor.  The course includes an immersive simulated obstetric scenario (with debriefing), and will end with a discussion on how to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynaecology.

By participating in this course you’ll be eligible for one point on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) training program application. There are no assessments. FIND OUT MORE…..

Obstetrics Emergency Practices

This one day, hands-on program provides participants with the latest knowledge and skills on obstetric emergencies. Skills are practiced using realistic simulation equipment, under the guidance of current clinical experts. Current evidence-based practice underpins the causes, risks, physiology and current management of the following topics:

  • Eclampsia and HELLP
  • Bleeding in pregnancy
  • Unplanned breech birth
  • Cord prolapse
  • Shoulder dystocia
  • Uterine inversion
  • Maternal collapse – anaphylaxis / amniotic fluid embolus / special considerations for resuscitation
  • PPH (estimating blood loss and bimanual compression)

Perineal Suturing

Women’s Health Workshop

The ARIMGSAS Women’s Health Workshop is a one-day workshop run by Dr Laura Papillo, who has worked in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Box Hill Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women.  The morning and early afternoon program comprises theoretical presentation and case discussions on gynaecological topics including:

  • contraceptive methods
  • cervical cancer and screening
  • irregular vaginal bleeding
  • menopause management

The later portion of the afternoon comprises practical sessions on:

  • sensitive history taking
  • sensitive physical examination
  • taking a Pap smear
  • performing a bimanual examination
  • performing a breast examination

The Paediatric Life Support (PLS) program is for clinicians of all levels who work with paediatric patients and are in Medical Emergency or Code Blue teams. This program is open to medical officers and GP specialists & trainees.
