Advanced Diabetes Care

This online program has been developed to provide GPs with additional skills to manage patients with complex diabetes who are not achieving or maintaining good control. It also covers assessment and management of microvascular complications. The successful completion of this online program provides documentation to enable GPs with a Special Interest (GPwSI) in Diabetes to work in diabetes ‘beacon’ clinics.

This course provides an overview of a best-practice approach to GP diabetes management including:

  • selection of appropriate oral hypoglycaemics
  • key management issues in commencing insulin in a community setting
  • assessment and management of micro-vascular complications of diabetes
  • skills and approaches GPs require to help their patients and communities to succeed in lifestyle review and modification
  • working effectively with secondary care.

Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Provider: Mater Health Education

This online and practice implementation module provides a comprehensive guide for general practitioners and health care professionals working in general practice and primary health care to establish a functional diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening service in their practice. The module is based on the findings of an NHMRC trial which identified that general practices, with appropriate camera and in-practice training, achieved mean effective DR screening rates of 99% (NHMRC estimates our national rate at 50%).

It also includes perspectives of patients and practitioners regarding optimal screening and is suitable for urban, rural and Aboriginal Medical Service settings. During the program you will learn about:

  • the new DR MBS item numbers: 12325 and 12326: and
  • requirements for a safe and effective DR service, including;
    • the necessary practice infrastructure, including choice of camera
    • information for practice nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers to maximise quality images using a non-mydriatic camera
    • online training for GPs to be confident in the accurate interpretation of retinal images and appropriate referral
    • a self-test to benchmark screening accuracy
    • strategies to develop a process for DR screening which suits your practice and community.

Pain Management

Better Pain Management

Provider: ANZCA Faculty of Pain Medicine

Better Pain Management is a professional, high quality online education program developed by the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). The program has been designed for specialist and general medical practitioners, medical students, nurses and allied health practitioners engaged in the care of patients with persistent pain.

Better Pain Management is a program of twelve online education modules each designed to be completed in one hour.  Modules can be purchased individually to construct a self-directed learning program, or as pre-set Courses comprising of modules packaged together to produce a targeted learning program. Training managers can also purchase modules or courses on behalf of others, distribute and manage licenses to staff and create a comprehensive training program around pain management. Putting Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Skills into Practice

The Putting Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Skills into Practice webinar training program gives you an opportunity to learn how to help your patients better manage chronic or persisting pain problems. Each program consists of seven webinar sessions of 90 minutes duration conducted over a 2-3 month timeframe. In each session you will explore specific strategies on how to effectively manage patients experiencing chronic pain.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion recognising 28 hours of professional development if all attendance and homework requirements are met.
